German Ayala Vazquez is a Philadelphia-based photographer and visual artist originally from Bayamón, Puerto Rico, and raised in New York. His work is renowned for its masterful use of lighting and vibrant color, bringing depth and emotion to each image. With a versatile practice spanning fashion, commercial, conceptual, and photojournalistic photography, German's art aims to amplify the voices of Afro Queer and BIPOC LGBTQIA+ communities, particularly those from regions with a legacy of colonization. His creative approach allows for a bold, vivid narrative, making each photograph a powerful expression of identity and resilience.
With a Bachelor of Fine Arts in photography from the University of the Arts in Philadelphia, I have collaborated with clients such as Condé Nast, Apple, Barron's Magazine, Smithsonian Magazine, and Shutterstock, offering a culturally nuanced perspective to each project. My work has earned recognition through awards and grants from Profoto, Nikon, the Shutterstock Creator Fund, and Wacom.
My personal projects have been showcased at notable exhibitions, including the 2024 Brazil Black Art Biennial, the British Journal of Photography's 2021 Home Exhibition, and the Humble Arts Foundation, with solo exhibitions in both San Juan and Philadelphia. I am currently open to commercial and editorial assignments and am eager to continue telling stories through impactful visual storytelling.
